The benefits of smart lighting

Smart Lighting is an integral part of a smart home automation system and delivers many great benefits to your home lifestyle. We will explain just a few, from convenience and safety to saving yourself time.

  1. Scheduling
This is one of the biggest benefits relating to the safety of your home. You can programme lights to come on and off at different times of the day, perfect if you are out for evening or away on holiday, continuing activity in your home and hopefully deterring anyone from breaking in. You can also schedule lights to come on at certain times in the morning as a wakeup call – perhaps even set on a low-level setting so that it enables you to wake up gradually.
  2. Convenience
“It’s your turn to turn off the lights” I’m sure many of you have had this conversation once you’ve tucked yourself up into bed. Well today you can use your smart phone or tablet to switch everything off remotely via the easy to use app. Let’s face it – these devices are often by our sides most of the time anyway so why not make them even more useful.
  3. Motion detectors
These are great for indoor and outdoor purposes. They are extremely helpful when coming back late at night and also deter anyone from lurking around your home. Indoor motion detectors are great energy savers, only coming on and off as and when you leave a room and also incredibly helpful when you are walking down the landing to the bathroom in the middle of the night!
  4. Atmosphere
Lighting can have a huge impact on the ambience of a room. You can pre-programme different light settings to reflect a certain event or time of day. For example, intimate lighting for your dinner date nights, brighter lighting for after school play dates or low-level lighting for Friday night movie nights with the family. Once these are programmed in to your app, you will only need to tap once on the device to set your scene.
  5. Saving money
You may not realise but smart lighting can really help reduce your energy bills by using an smart lighting control system. I’m sure we have all gone to work at some stage and returned home to realise we left the light on in the bedroom? With a smart lighting control system, you can simply log on to the app via your smart phone and deactivate the light with just one click.

It is often understood that you can’t retro-fit lighting control, however we are able to do this and have had many successful installations using RAKO smart lighting, by replacing existing switches. We can also work with most light fixtures and fittings so that you can enjoy the benefits of smart lighting but still have a switch that compliments your home decor.
